OverSoyed Fine Organic Products - National Mojito Day

Each year on July 11th, people across America raise a glass to mark National Mojito Day. The cocktail consists of white rum, sugar, lime juice, sparkling water, and mint.

The mojito is a traditional Cuban highball, and while rumored to be a drink favored of the author, Ernest Hemingway, it’s never been proven. It seems the story behind Hemingway and the mojito is a tall tale to attract visitors and to sell drinks. Isn’t every origin story behind a drink designed to sell more of the original anyway?

Whether Hemingway ever had a mojito or even liked it, doesn’t matter. With a low alcohol content, this refreshing cocktail has found popularity in the summertime for its refreshing combination of sweetness, citrus, and mint flavors. The invigorating flavor says summer and stimulates the palate. It’s perfect for barbecues and evenings on the beach.

Although born in Cuba, the exact origin of the Mojito is under debate with roots as early as 1586.

A variety of recipes add fruit to the mojito for unique summer combinations. The already refreshing beverage lends itself to being mixed in large pitchers for serving a crowd or individual drinks for one or two people. Mixes offer the simplicity of just adding rum; however, the best mojito is freshly made with simple ingredients.

Mix up a pitcher to enjoy mojitos with friends on the patio or deck. This beverage is best enjoyed on a hot summer day. Remember always to drink responsibly and never to drink and drive! Post on social media using #NationalMojitoDay.
